Isn’t it funny how we can have the best intentions to do something but when it comes down to it we just can’t make it happen? Well, actually it’s not funny. It’s sad and can certainly make us feel guilty. Then we get in a cycle of [sort of] trying, then failing, then feeling bad. We think, “I really do WANT [this thing]. My intentions are there!” And we do! But, if this is true why can’t we just get it done?
So. Many. Reasons.
We are busy! We are moms (and dads) who serve our children all day long. We have too much to balance. There just isn’t enough time in the day. Something always comes up. We start but can’t finish. We have a hard time forming new habits. Satan is attacking us. The struggle is real.
Yes, it’s true! It’s ALL true! But it’s true for everyone else too. And some people CAN get it done. How?
Of course there are many things that factor into it, but for me there came a point where I had to look within myself and realize that just like everything else in a day, I have decisions to make. I have to decide to DO a lot of things that take a lot of intentional action because they are a little outside of my personality or “natural” way of doing things.
That is how the extra fun part of homeschooling has happened since our first year. I always wanted to be “that mom” who did all of the fun homeschool activities to keep it super exciting for my kids and to be all that I thought I could. Well….3 years later and I didn’t accomplish those dreams.
But NOW….year 4. Two kids in school. I’m getting it done.
I have come to a new understanding about what intentionality and organization and sacrifice really mean for ME. I love that I have found a way to hold myself accountable and we are off to a great start for our bet year yet!
