Don’t you love when fun things are really easy?! Our Sonlight science curriculum suggested playing Pictionary using the glossary from the back of our weather book we completed. My oldest, Cora (8) is such an artist I knew she would be all about it. Eliza is only 5 and I knew she wouldn’t be able to draw or guess what Cora would be able to, but we had no problems having a blast with this game. Cora was even squealing and giggling with excitement throughout the game (I didn’t expect her to love it THAT much. Score!).
We made it even easier than Pictionary already is by using their Boogie Boards! SO much better than paper. I hate loose pieces of paper all over our house and I constantly fight that. I mean why would my kids use their nice tidy sketch pads when they can get out several pieces of loose printer paper for everything they want to draw and leave them all over the kid table where they inevitably end up on the floor? Boogie Boards were absolutely perfect and I think I will be looking for ways to incorporate this simple little game into our school more often.
Actually, how fun would it be to play it for family game night and choose your own topics? Winner can pick the next topic. I predict my kids picking these themes: horses, dogs, hunting, farm equipment, Star Wars and camping. Players can either pick their own word to draw or a parent (or whoever) can give the words to each one (this was how we did it for school). Make up rules as desired for your kids and ages. Mine are all little so simple and not too competitive is my preference.
Oh I can only imagine Cora’s squeals over this idea! If you play it let me know how you did it and any special ideas, variations or rules you came up with. Gotta love the classics.
